Albery secures Junior Pan Pacific selection 24/03/2014 06:29am

Following his success at the New Zealand Open Water Champs earlier this year, Capital Swim Club’s Liam Albery finished 13th in a time of 1:57:07.21 at last month’s Australian Open Water Championships in Perth.

Liam’s performance means he has qualified to be part of the New Zealand Team for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships that will be in Hawaii at the end of August.

Competing in only his second Open Water competition, Liam was the youngest swimmer in the Australian Champs where there was a very strong international field, . He remained in the leading pack until around 8km before the pace of the more experienced swimmers began to show.

Solid performances at NZ Junior Champs 24/03/2014 06:26am

Capital Swim Club was represented by 15 of its 12 years and under swimmers at the 2014 State New Zealand Junior Championships held in Wellington.

The girls: Alaynah Bettany, Sophie Irving, Maia Moe Jenkins, Caterina Moreno, Tallulah O'Neill, Kirstie Rae, Jenna Rolston-Larking, Sophia Tweddle and Hannah Van Kampen were joined by a boys’ team of Sam Brown, William Duggan, Joshua Hansen, Liam Iggo, Atakura Julian and Harry Stew. Collectively their performances placed the Club 18th out of 98 clubs.

Capital’s Director of Coaching Craig Albery said this was a very solid weekend of competition for the Club with our swimmers performing above the expectations of the coaching team, especially considering a few were competing at their first National event.

Success for junior swimmers at Capital Classic 13/02/2014 06:53am

Along with our elite contestants, Capital’s younger swimmers posted some impressive results in the State Capital Classic in Oriental Bay on 26 January.

In the “State Ocean Kids” event Tamrah Titcombe won the 200 metre swim for nine-year-old girls. Tamrah won the under nine girls’ division last year.

Tamrah and fellow Capital swimmer Sam Brown’s efforts earned them the prize of attending a two day training camp in Auckland, along with 28 other swimmers between the ages of eight and ten from all over New Zealand. Capital takes out senior division of Signature Series 04/02/2014 06:45pm

Capital has won the senior division of the 2013 Signature Series swimming competition.

The Signature Series is an inter club competition for swimmers in the Wellington region.  Its aim is to give swimmers the chance to qualify in each of the strokes and distances swum at regional and national meets.

Every year clubs in the region are allocated a Signature meet to design and run. The meets are usually held at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre.

A point system is used to reward swimmers for their placings and the club for the number of participants. 

The competition is divided into a 12 and under division and a senior division, with trophies and prize money of $500 for each winning club up for grabs every year.

Capital makes its mark on Ocean Swim 04/02/2014 06:43pm

Following her recent success at the State New Zealand Open Water Championships in Taupo, Capital’s Emma Robinson again showed her dominance in Open Water swimming when she won the elite women’s division of the State Capital Classic Ocean swim.

Robinson and seven other Capital swimmers competed in the 2 km swim in choppy conditions on Wellington harbour on 26 January.

A strongly contested battle for second place saw Capital’s Josie Kozyniak take the Silver in the elite women’s division with Nikki Chapman coming in 4th and Lauren Duggan finishing 6th.

In the elite men’s division Capital’s Liam Albery, Ben Ruback, Callum Sinclair and Hamish Trlin put in strong performances in a field of top Open Water swimmers.
