Levin meet attracts large contingent of young Capital swimmers

Capital recently sent one of its largest ever groups of swimmers to an away meet.

Sixty of our younger swimmers (aged mostly between 8 and 12) travelled by bus with coach Cliff Threadgold and parent helpers to Levin’s Autumn Carnival.

The meet was held at the Levin Aquatic Centre on 16 March and gave swimmers the chance to swim all strokes in 50, 100 and 200 metre distances. Ribbons were also up for grabs.

“We decided this was a great opportunity for our younger swimmers to experience the fun of going to an away meet and travelling as a team,” says Cliff.

“Many of them didn’t have times for various races so it was also a chance for them to try a number of new events.

“We had some great results with our swimmers winning a total of 79 ribbons for top three places,” says Cliff.

A run around the Levin adventure playground before the swim meet started got the kids warmed up and a stop at McDonalds for dinner was a welcome treat at the end of a long day.
