Capital puts its stamp on NZ Opens

Finishing second club overall, winning medals and making finals were highlights for the Capital swimmers who took part in the State New Zealand Open Swimming Championships from 8 - 11 April.

Capital Swimmers from the High Performance Centre and our A and B squads travelled to Auckland for New Zealand’s premiere swimming event at Auckland’s West Wave Aquatic Centre.

“It was four days of intense competition with our swimmers competing against the best in the country,” says Capital’s Director of Coaching Craig Albery.

“We had swimmers winning medals in individual and team events and others making A grade and B grade finals.”

The meet was televised live on Sky Sport and Craig and our swimmers were frequently acknowledged by the commentators for their achievements.

This recognition, combined with five of our high performance swimmers being selected for the Commonwealth Games, shows why Capital is one of the top clubs in the country.

Capital’s Tash Hind, Samantha Lee, Samantha Lucie-Smith and Emma Robinson also qualified for the Pan Pacific Championships which will be held in Australia’s Gold Coast on 21-25 August, three weeks after the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
