Great start to Metro League for Capital’s junior swimmers

Well done to all the Capital swimmers who attended the first round of the Metro League - a new and exciting regional competition for our 12-year-old and under swimmers.

The League takes place over three separate qualifying rounds, finishing with an A and B final at the end of June. Capital has entered two teams into the League – the Aces and the Bees. Our aim is to have both teams competing in the A final.

The Aces first round meet was at the Cannons Creek pool in Porirua on Saturday 10 May. They won the meet and are first overall after round one.

Coach Timon Wilkinson was happy with the perfomance of the team and is looking forward to seeing what the swimmers can achieve in the next round.

The Bees travelled to Wanganui on the same day for their first round of the League.

Coach Cliff Threadgold says the Bees put up a very good fight against some tough opposition and finished the round in a credible fourth place.

“Every swimmer played a significant part in gaining valuable points for the team,” says Threadgold.

The 10-year-old girls relay teams led the way for the Bees winning both their freestyle and medley relays.

Round two of the Metro League is on 24 May. The Bees are in Tawa and the Aces are in Masterton.
