Success for Capital at Juniors

Capital’s young swimmers put in a fantastic effort at the 2015 New Zealand Junior Championships (20-23 February) to put the Club in fifth place overall – up from 18th last season.

Coach Cliff Threadgold says this was an amazing improvement and testament to the hard work the junior squads have done through the year.

“Capital had 22 swimmers competing, with most swimming personal best times in their events,” says Cliff.

“These improvements took many swimmers into a top ten placing where the Club scored points.

“Four of our swimmers shared 14 medals between them including five golds won by: Sophie Irving (two) Tamrah Titcombe (one) and Ben Stirling (two).

“The fourth medal winner was Gabriella Jacobs who collected the Bronze medal in an exciting 50m freestyle race where Capital had two swimmers placed on the podium.

“Special thanks to Jo Bognuda for her great work as team manager.”
