Top 10 placing for Capital at national meet

It was a week of intense swimming for Capital’s team of seven swimmers who, with Coach Timon Wilkinson, headed south to Dunedin for the 2015 NZ Division II Competition.

The national meet was held at Moana Pool from 18-21 March and involved 300 swimmers from 86 clubs around the country.

Timon says with only seven Capital swimmers competing, finishing tenth overall was a fantastic result and testimony to the hard work and effort put in by the swimmers in preparing for this competition.

“We had five swimmers earning individual medals and the other two achieving personal bests in all their races,” says Timon.

“We finished up with a medal tally of two Golds, three Silvers, four Bronze and 10 other top five placings.

“Two of our relay teams did particularly well, winning the Girls 14-and-under 400 medley relay and coming second in the Girls 14-and-under 400 freestyle relay.”

Capital would like to thank Timon and Team Manager Jeanette Bourke for looking after our swimmers and getting them out and about (between swimming) to see some of the sights of Dunedin!

Swimmers who gained top three placings were:

  • William Duggan – 1st 400 Free
  • Megan Cox – 2nd 400 IM, 3rd 200 IM, 3rd 200 Breast
  • Marcella Klap – 3rd 400 IM
  • Ella Kingi – 3rd 200 IM
  • Hannah Van Kampen – 2nd 100 Fly
