Coaching Staff

Gary Hollywood joined Capital Swim Club in April 2016 as Head Coach bringing with him over 30 years of coaching experience. Gary’s swimmers have competed at Olympic Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, World University Games, Pan Pacific Championships, Oceania Championships, Youth Olympics, Commonwealth Youth Games, and Pacific School Games. Much of Gary’s success he attributes to the coaches associations of Australia and America. And to his mentors Bill Sweetenham, Istvan Bayli, Rick Bailey and Doug Frost. Gary is the first International Fellow to come out of the American Swimming and Coaches Association leadership programme of which Gary is an International Life Member. 

Aidan Withington joined capital swim club in June 2016 bring 10 years + of coaching experience to the team. Aidan originates from southland where he started by volunteering teaching at a young age. He started coaching in Invercargill as development coach in 2005 increasing numbers and achieving junior and age group titles. In 2006 Aidan he was hired as the first ever Southland development officer working with schools and swim clubs within the Southland region. In 2010 Aidan moved to Central Hawkes bay where he was head coach for 6 years, coaching swimmers to national age and open titles. You will now find Aidan Coaching the youth group and Junior Olympic squad. 

Craig Elliot grew up swimming for Cockermouth Swimming Club in Cumbria England, from there he moved to Loughborough University and studied a BSc in Sports Science and Management. During this time he represented Great Britain on several occasions and was a British age group record holder. Craig turned his hand to teaching and coaching in a learn to swim business start up in 2013, he then moved to New Zealand in 2015 and settled in Wellington. Shortly after moving to Wellington he was hired as a senior instructor at Wellington Regional Aquatics Centre to develop the school age and advanced learn to swim programs. Craig joined Capital swim club in June 2016 as our Junior Dolphins and Collegiate group coach.
