Emma Robinson and Club Fundraiser #1 – It’s A Wrap

Over 80 club swimmers converged at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre (WRAC) to attend their usual Wednesday evening training lessons – with a difference! Supported by Head Coach Gary Hollywood, his coaching team and senior squad swimmers, our very own and most current Olympian, Emma Robinson, returned from Rio to give back to the Club by putting our swimmers through their paces in a fun, learning, and energetic manner. Watching poolside were also various media journalists from the Dominion Post, Stuff, Cook Strait News, and club parents.

Days later, Emma was back in front of over 60 Club members and swimmers at our new base, theHub, where she delivered an up-close and personal slideshow of her personal journey towards the Rio Olympics 2016. Emma’s laidback and at times, humorous stories had everyone in the room hooked from start to finish. Other highlights of the evening included holding her Olympic pounamu (greenstone), a question and answer time that revealed her favourite brand of chocolate, and what her current times were for various strokes, and mingling with everyone over a light supper before closing with the much anticipated raffle and silent auction draws.

Emma’s recent time with the Club also purposely coincided with fundraising efforts aimed at benefitting her and all club swimmers. While not yet finalised, we reckon we raised about $2,500 from the entry fees to Emma’s training clinics, her slideshow talk, and raffle sales. While we raised money for our swimmers, we also raised awareness about our Club through media promotion, and demonstrated that as a club we can have a good time both in and out of the pool. This means that this is not a one-off fundraising effort!

Last but not least, on behalf of the Board thank you to the families who volunteered to sell raffles, IOT, set up food and rooms at theHub, and the amazing sponsors and club members who kindly donated raffle and silent auction items. Please support these businesses who kindly supported our Club:

The Larder, Brentwood Hotel, Swim T3, Kilbirnie Number WorksNWords, Maranui Café, Real Surf, Elements Cafe, Wellington Children’s Bookstore, Unichem Pharmacy, Jimmy Q Hairdressers, Woodstock Designer Florist, Kilbirnie Dental, the Kilduff family, and Emma Robinson herself who donated personal Olympic items!

If you are interested in getting behind future fundraising efforts for the Club, or have a fundraising idea that we should explore, please contact Hari on mobile 027 600 4150 or hirata.titcombe@gmail.com.

Raffle and silent auction winners will appear on the homepage of our club website by the end of this week.
